When things get tough, this is what you should do: Make good art. I’m serious. Husband runs off with a politician — make good art. Leg crushed and then eaten by a mutated boa constrictor — make good art. IRS on your trail — make good art. Cat exploded — make good art. Someone on the Internet thinks what you’re doing is stupid or evil or it’s all been done before — make good art. – Neil Gaiman, 2012
Yessir!
PS And here’s Neil’s note of appreciation to friend and sci-fi author Ray Bradbury (August 22, 1920-June 5, 2012).
nice speeh. everything can make a good art.
I’m so glad I watched this! Eerily enough, it’s exactly what I needed to hear.
Thanks for posting this!
Keep making good art. Love your posts.
Striking words. Especially now that I just got out of the hospital and will have to stay at home for two months. I should do something worthwhile, indeed. Like make good art. Thanks for sharing.
Yep, you can do it. Making the most out of anything helps speed up the process. May you feel better soon.
XX,

Neil Gaiman is inspiring. Hopefully I can make good art too..
Yes he is inspiring, and I appreciate your thoughts, Farida and Sumi.

High five!
truly inspiring!
yep.
parang madaling sabihin, pero mahirap gawin..
right now, I am in a great trouble and if I could only hide anywhere, i would, but I couldn’t.
yeah, art is never an easy endeavor.
yey to Neil Gaiman! Art, I believe, is really inside everybody. Such a waste when not nurtured.
so is that like saying we all have the seed of art sown in us? ‘cos i’d like to think of it that way.
Art inspires creativity and without creativity there’s no invention.
Yup, yup, creativity is the mother of all inventions.
I love that – “make good art”. great speech.
Agreed, Chris, Jessica, and Nelson. Hope it has inspired you to make good art as well.
what an inspirational speech indeed! good luck to the 2012 graduates

very inspiring speech
Art is appreciated according to the taste of the beholder. But artists know what is good and what is bad. Good art appeals more to the senses. Making a good art takes patience, efforts and dedication to achieve it.
Righto!
i see this as appreciating whatever we have. always look at the bright side.
Could be that.
i believe we should put that speech in context. try telling that to an out of school youth from basilan, who needs more than art but security, food and education.
Yep, I think it should be taken as a message aimed at, aside from the art graduates, those who pursue art as a craft and career; that whoever chooses it must embrace its all-encompassing power and not be sidetracked by life’s moments, good or bad.
jsut express it all out through art….
May I add: If we have to express or create in and by the realm of art, then by all means let’s make good art.
i first saw this on Tumblr. really awesome speech.
let’s continue to make good art!
Yep, it’s like just live your lives to the fullest, mehn–and make good art.
i loved this keynote. sobrang encouraging! let’s keep on making good art!
